As news breaks of the breakdown of Jennifer Aniston’s second marriage, the media have reported that although the couple no longer want to be in a relationship they do wish to remain close friends. This raises the question whether it is possible to divorce harmoniously or whether during the process it always creates hostility between the parties.

There are many reasons which lead to marriage breakdown and unless a couple have been separated for two years or more, unfortunately one party has to blame the other for their “unreasonable behaviour” before they can start divorce proceedings.

Tom Fisher, Family Law Solicitor at Jackson Lees comments:

“Although this can lead to bitterness between the parties, it is always important to remember that the contents of the divorce petition can be agreed before the proceedings are issued. Even though unreasonable behaviour may be the only fact which can be relied upon to start the proceedings, this does not mean the proceedings have to be unfriendly and difficult. It should not be seen as a barrier to the divorce.”

We at Jackson Lees aim to ensure the divorce procedure runs as smoothly as possible for all parties with a particular focus on the children’s needs. Often when my clients first come to see me they are extremely worried about the situation they find themselves in and I do my best to reassure them that everything will be ok. My clients trust me to find the best solution for them as quickly as possible and we do our best to resolve the divorce, and all issues arising from the divorce, as quickly and cost effectively as possible. We offer fixed fees for divorce proceedings so our clients know exactly where they stand during the divorce process.”
