The Clinical Negligence Team at Jackson Lees recently attended the Disability Awareness Day (DAD) event on Sunday, 14th July at Walton Gardens in Warrington.

Disability Awareness Day, founded by Dave Thompson MBE DL in 1992, and is managed by the Warrington Disability Partnership. The day focuses on promoting a ‘can do culture’ around what disabled people can do throughout their lives and work, with the event gaining a lot of traction over the last 30 years.

This year, the event’s theme was “It’s what disabled people can do that matters”.

The annual event provides disabled people and carers the opportunity to meet others within the community, and access a whole host of resources, equipment and services that promote independent living. There is also a showcase for disabled people to present their skills in sports, arts and entertainment.

We were thrilled to be involved in Disability Awareness Day and have the opportunity to make a positive difference to the community we serve. The event, which has previously attracted upwards of 20,000 attendees and over 200 exhibitors, is the world’s largest voluntary led pan disability exhibition.

Throughout the day, our team got to engage with both adults and children living with disabilities, their families, carers and organisations committed to providing disability services.

Julia Hurlbut, Joanne Maher, Ruth Thomas, Catherine Laverick and Charles Stacey of our Clinical Negligence Team hosted a tombola brimming with gifts and the day was packed with entertainment, from performing and visual arts, to arts and crafts, interactive workshops, and a sports zone.

Joanne, the Team Leader of the Clinical Negligence team, said:

It was a privilege and very humbling to exhibit at the event, which exuded such positive and proactive attitudes towards disability.  We are humbled by anyone living with disability directly or indirectly and we got the opportunity to meet with some pretty amazing ambassadors for disability."

The Jackson Lees Group is proud to be a law firm who champion equality, diversity and inclusion within our own organisation and we are honoured to have the opportunity to engage with our communities through events like Disability Awareness Day.

At Jackson Lees, we understand dealing with the consequences of medical negligence can be devastating. Our empathetic team are here to support you, call us today or make an enquiry.
