It’s that time again, the World Cup is giving those that love the beautiful game their out of season football fix. But for many it’s the cause of rows and feelings of rejection.
It is far from uncommon for sporting addictions to be cited within a divorce petition, it appears that some are unable to prioritise their relationship with their spouse and family, over their devotion to the team they’ve followed since childhood.
Tom Fisher, Family Law Solicitor at Jackson Lees, comments:
Whilst we do not believe that the World Cup and all its festivities are the root cause of any marriage break-up, during times in a couple’s married life when a big event like this can take over one spouses’ time and attention, it can be the final straw to seeking to make a change in your life.
You may find yourself in a situation where you cannot compete with the 11 men that consume so much of your other halves time or you are playing second best to the tennis at Wimbledon. You may have realised that you no longer have shared interests with your partner and are no longer happy in your marriage, you may also have reached the conclusion that you cannot continue as you are and separation is your only way forward.
There are of course avenues you can explore to save your marriage, such as counselling or Relate. But if you have done all you can and wish to separate, Jackson Lees will strive to work with you to make the experience as simple as possible for you and your family.
