Celebrity divorces are widely reported in the media, with the main focus being those that are bitter and apparently "unfair" to one party. But What is the reality of a divorce? What are the different divorce emotions?
Stories of Lisa Armstrong's (Ant McPartlan's ex-wife) divorce are still all over social media with claims that she lost her job, she is the victim of the divorce, that she has been betrayed and much more. However there has been little mention of the lump sum that she would have received or of the other ongoing work commitments that she has to support herself.
In contrast, Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow have just been on holiday together with both parties bringing their respective new partners/spouses and children. There are no bitter stories flooding the media and they have reported that they are better friends than they were partners.
Why is it that the media focus on the unpleasant stories when divorces such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin do exist, and get such little coverage?
Tom Fisher, Family Law Solicitor at Jackson Lees comments:
It is sad when the media will only focus upon the negative to sell stories on other people's misfortune. Divorce is an upsetting thing for any person to go through, whether it be acrimonious or not, but it is important that the general public are aware that divorce does not have to be a hostile or stressful process. In fact, people can and do get along when divorcing as perhaps marriage was just not for them, or they have simply grown apart.
The media will only ever focus on the half-truths and will never detail the true reasons of why a marriage has broken down. You will notice that every celebrity divorce is because the marriage has "irretrievably broken down" or due to "irreconcilable differences" it will have only taken 20 seconds for the court to pronounce the divorce. What they are not telling you is that this is the case for many divorces, and that these phrases are the divorce "buzzwords" - a 20 second divorce is merely the Decree Nisi and not the actual divorce (you are still married at this point!).
However, do not fear because my team at Jackson Lees are here to put all the media myths to rest and will provide you with all the help and assistance that you require to make your divorce as stress free and painless as possible.
Divorce is hard enough without having the media distort the reality. Let us help guide you through.
