Overview
Diethylstilbestrol, commonly known in the UK as Stilbestrol or DES, was frequently prescribed to pregnant women from 1940s to 1970s to help prevent miscarriages.
We now know that Stilbestrol has been linked to cancer, infertility, miscarriage, premature birth, birth defects, and rare reproductive conditions — not just for the women who were prescribed it, but for their daughters and sons, too.
If you are someone who has been affected by Stilbestrol, please watch this short video from Clare Fletcher, Partner at Broudie Jackson Canter, and then complete your client questionnaire below to register your interest in joining our campaign.
Hundreds of thousands of women were exposed to this harmful drug. Many without ever being told about its potential to cause harm. The effects in both the women who took the drug and their daughters and sons has caused lifelong injuries, and premature death.
We believe those who have been affected by this harmful drug deserve answers, accountability and justice from the UK government. Join us as we campaign for the government to explain how a drug so harmful was handed out so freely, and provide some kind of redress, whether that be a statutory public inquiry or a compensation fund for those affected. While money can never reverse the effects of Stilbestrol, it can make dealing with the long-term easier and effects more comfortable.
We will also be campaigning for the UK government to commit to raising more awareness of Diethylstilbestrol among the UK public, but especially for healthcare workers and people affected by the drug, as well as a screening programme to help save lives. This silent scandal can be silent no more.
There is strength in numbers. By coming together to apply pressure the government will have no choice but to act. Leave an enquiry by filling in our questionnaire and we will keep you updated on the progress of our campaign.
Should you have any difficulty completing the questionnaire, please contact our team on 0330 822 7554 or email us direct at DESJustice@broudiejacksoncanter.co.uk, and they will support you through the next steps.
