Broudie Jackson Canters Sponsorship at the SLSA 2025
Broudie Jackson Canter is proud to be sponsoring the Equality and Human Rights Law: Challenges session at this year’s SLSA.
Held on Wednesday the 15th of April at 11:00am, this session invites contributions from different jurisdictions exploring issues within the fields of law, equality, human rights, and discrimination.
We're excited to be sponsoring this session, demonstrating our dedication to advancing socio-legal studies and supporting important discussions on key legal issues. Clare Fletcher, one of our partners from the Major Inquests & Inquiries team at Broudie Jackson Canter, will be present to support the valuable conversations taking place.
We believe that these sessions will help us make important progress in understanding and addressing today's legal challenges. By creating a collaborative environment, we hope to contribute to the improvement of legal standards and practices that benefit the Merseyside community and beyond.
Elkan Abrahamson and the Legacies of Hillsborough
Elkan Abrahamson will take a central role in the session Liverpool and The Legacies of Hillsborough: A Multi-Sectoral, Socio-Legal Campaign.
This session, taking place on Wednesday the 15th of April at 9:00am, is set to feature key figures from the Hillsborough Justice campaign. Among them are Liverpool-based writer and producer Jimmy McGovern, prominent socio-legal scholar Professor Phil Scraton, and Margaret Aspinall and Sue Roberts, the chair and secretary of the Hillsborough Family Support Group.
The Hillsborough Disaster, which occurred during the FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989, tragically claimed the lives of ninety-seven people. This event has sparked numerous legal and social investigations, including inquiries, criminal investigations, compensation hearings, and judicial reviews.
Elkan's position as the legal representative for many of the victims' families and the co-author of Hillsborough Law places him in a key role for this session. He will be discussing how the relentless campaigning by the Hillsborough families has challenged the state's and legal system's accountability processes.
