On the 10th of August, we attended the annual Merseyside Junior Lawyers Division (MJLD) Awards and Summer Ball. We want to thank MJLD for a wonderful evening and for commemorating the hard work achieved in the legal sector across the region.
We were extremely proud to achieve four shortlists in three categories on the night. The firm wide achievement for Support to Rising Talent, and shortlisting for Megan Bickley, for the Legal Excellence award and both Megan Cockcroft and Abishna Arunprakash who were shortlisted for the Care in the Community award.
We are delighted to congratulate Abishna Arunprakash, caseworker in our Covid Inquiry team at Broudie Jackson Canter, on receiving the Care in the Community award for her extensive work in promoting diversity and inclusion as the Head of our Diversity Collective here at Jackson Lees Group.
Outside of her case work Abishna has thrown herself into providing support and awareness in a whole range of different areas and is rapidly becoming a champion for diversity and a beacon of awareness for her peers and the wider Merseyside community.
From organising events for International Women's Day and advocating for inclusivity at the Liverpool City Region Equality Hub, to her efforts in promoting deaf awareness and supporting the Hillsborough Law Now campaign. She has demonstrated a true dedication to social justice.
Abishna's passion for education shines through her 'Inspiring Law' initiative, aimed at encouraging students from disadvantaged and BAME backgrounds to pursue legal careers. Her actions have not only uplifted her community but have also set a standard for social responsibility and engagement
Speaking on the award, Abishna said;
“I am absolutely delighted to have won the MJLD Care in the Community Award 2024 for my work promoting diversity and inclusion within Jackson Lees Group. Coming from an underrepresented background, this recognition is especially meaningful to me. I am thankful to everyone who has supported me, and I look forward to continuing to make a positive difference in our community.”
We would also like to extend our congratulations to both Megan Bickley and Megan Cockcroft; despite not bringing home any awards we would like to highlight the fantastic recognition shown to both by being shortlisted in their respective categories.
Well done to all finalists and to all the winners of the MJLD awards. At Jackson Lees Group, we will continue to provide legal excellence, consistently striving to care for and make a positive difference within our communities.
