It has been widely reported that Ant McPartlin is divorcing his wife after 11 years of marriage. The media has document that he will offer his wife £31 million in a financial settlement, that they wish to arrange joint custody of their family dog and the papers have even gone so far as to question why the couple are getting divorced as his wife appears to have been loyal to him during and after his stint in rehab. But what is the reality of their situation?

Tom Fisher, Family Law Solicitor at Jackson Lees, comments:

“It is such a shame when the media has to report on a celebrity couple that are trying to do the right thing for themselves and making one of the hardest decisions of their life. It is already the most difficult decision to get a divorce but to try and remain amicable and reach an agreement, and doing so without the assistance of solicitors is a very commendable thing to do and not uncommon. The media and general public passing judgement will not be helping their situation.

Some couples may feel that it is better for them to remain friends and divorce rather than stay in a marriage that they know it is not working and will over time, only make each party resent the other. Having made the decision that a divorce is best for them, they are then able to discuss how they should divide their assets and how they wish to for their divorce to progress. As for the dog, this is certainly something that can be discussed and if you are amicable with your spouse, it is not unheard of that a parting couple can share ownership of the family pet.

It is also not unheard of for clients to attend our office, confirming that they have agreed everything with their spouse and they simply wish for our services in drafting the necessary paperwork and ensuring that their divorce is finalised and a Financial Court order achieved. With our help, it can be simple, quick and stress free.”

Our divorce lawyers in the family law department can offer this service under a fixed fee agreement and you will only need to attend our offices for the initial meeting and all paperwork will be dealt with on your behalf thereafter.
