On Monday 6th November, seven local businesses and one Indie Band took part in the Jackson Lees Trophy football tournament. Held at "The People's Hub" - the new home of Everton in the Community (EitC) - the tournament raised funds for the charity as part of the Goodison Sleep Out (Friday 10th November).
A team of 17 from the Jackson Lees Group will be taking part in the Sleep Out tonight to heighten awareness of homelessness by spending the whole night sleeping out on the stands.
Teams from Tilney, ES Walton, The Liverpool and Sefton Chambers of Commerce, local indie band Paris Youth Foundation, Balance Intelligent Ideas and RSM ensured it was a competitive tournament and also lots of fun. The teams were organised into two groups with the winners and runner ups making it through to a semi then a final to decide the eventual winners.
Paul Cherpeau, Chief Executive of Liverpool & Sefton Chambers of Commerce said
“The Chamber was delighted to participate in the tournament and to support this fantastic cause. Fortunately we are a better business than we are a football team and it is gratifying to make a positive contribution to Everton in the Community and the efforts of Jackson Lees to support the charity.”
A tightly contested final between Tilney and ES Walton saw the match finish 1.1, meaning the game went to penalties with Tilney coming out on top and eventual winners. When they collected the trophy Tilney’s captain Matthew Burgess said
"Thanks to EitC and all at the Jackson Lees Group for arranging a really great night in support of a very worthy cause. Winning the tournament was a bonus!"
Everton in the Community is the official charity of Everton Football Club. The charity delivers a wide range of programmes to promote health, education, social inclusion and equality of opportunity to over 30,000 participants every year and is widely regarded as one of the leading football club community programmes in the country.
Amanda Chatterton, Everton in the Community, Community Business Development Manager came along to support on the night and said:
“It was fantastic to see so many companies coming together from the Liverpool Business Community on a freezing cold Monday evening to raise money for the Goodison Sleepout, Home is Where the Heart is Campaign. We’d like to thank everyone who took part and of course our long-term partner Jackson Lees Group.”
