Stressful bail period is finally going to be subject to statutory time limits.

At long last it appears that the message has reached the politicians - time spent on bail waiting for the police to make a decision is stressful and should be limited.

The Home Secretary announced reforms yesterday which should begin to remove the injustice caused by police inaction.

For too long we have been struggling to explain to clients that there is no way we can challenge the length of time they are put on bail whilst enquiries are ongoing. This article from the Guardian explains the problem

The reforms are long overdue and mean that the process of police investigation should now be more transparent and open to proper levels of scrutiny.
