Michael's career in Mental Health Law dates back over 20 years. He joined the firm 12 years ago and since then he has been representing patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 in hospitals, from acute mental health wards to special hospitals. In recent years he has been training doctors at Merseycare and 5 Boroughs Partnership.

He is a member of The Law Society's Mental Health Tribunal Accreditation Scheme and has been for over 10 years. He has also been involved in a number of profile cases which include:-

R(RD) v MerseyCare NHS Trust (2002)
R(MM) v Secretary of State (2007)
IT v Secretary of State (2008)
The above cases are all reported in Richard Jones, Mental Health Act Manual.

He also took part once again in the Liverpool Half Marathon and in 2012 raised money for Huntingtons Disease Association which is a Mental Health Charity.
