Another year has passed within a blink of an eye, and I find myself writing a ‘Day in the Life’ blog for National Conveyancing Week for the third consecutive year!
I will be honest, writing the first was daunting and out of my comfort zone, but it really is a great way to review and reflect on the last year.
The last 12 months, on a personal level, has seen some of the greatest milestones in my career.
In March, I attended the British Conveyancing awards where I was ‘Highly Commended’ for Conveyancing Support Team Member of the Year.
In October, I sat and passed the final exam of the CLC Level 4, enabling me to now move on to the Level 6 of the course which is the final push on my journey to becoming a Licensed Conveyancer.
In December, I was offered a new position at Jackson Lees Group as a Senior Property Lawyer.
It is easy to lose track of the days in the world of conveyancing, everything moves at such a fast pace and when you’re in the moment it is so easy to miss what you have actually achieved. With things moving so quickly, it is ever more important to take time to reflect (even the smallest of wins), it really does make it all worthwhile.
With change comes new responsibilities, and so I have had to adjust how I work to ensure the best possible service for our clients.
07:30 - I am now typically on my way to the office, gearing up for the day ahead whilst making the journey through the tunnel to our Hoylake office.
08:30 - I am now firmly ready for the day and, after a quick catch up with my colleagues, I am logged on and raring to go.
I typically start the day by scanning through my emails and setting out a plan of action for me and my paralegal, Stacey.
Completions have to be prioritised and so we start to put the wheels in motion to try and complete as early as possible.
10:00 - Completions are now well underway and I now start to deal with any urgent matters, including any emails that I received overnight.
11:30 – By this time, urgent matters are now dealt with and completions are reaching the finishing line.
Every transaction will have its own story. Whether that be a first-time buyer excitedly waiting to collect the keys to their first home or selling a previous family home through probate. One thing in common for most clients, is that completion taking place is welcome news for all.
12:30 - Now all completions have taken place, I check in with my paralegal to talk through the rest of the day and decide what needs to be done.
In full transparency, the Conveyancing industry is tough. There are ever changing rules, requirements and regulations, there are constant calls and emails, different obstacles, and people to liaise with along the way and, most importantly, the actual conveyancing has to be done. There is always something to do. It is really important to keep in touch with colleagues, constant dialogue, and a laugh or two along the way really helps.
14:00 - After a quick reset over lunch, I am now ready to tackle the rest of the day and will carry out the remainder of my tasks and work through my to-do list. Day to day these tasks will differ, but typically they will include investigating the title to a property, reporting to clients and mortgage lenders, preparing files for completion, answering sales enquiries, and updating all parties involved along the way.
16:00 - I will now return to my emails and action as required.
16:45 - I am now looking ahead to tomorrow and will note any matters that will require my urgent attention.
19:00 - I am now back at home, logged back on for my studies of the CLC.
20:30 - I am now winding down, refreshed, and resting to get back to business bright and early tomorrow!
