On 19th May at the Shankly Hotel, ten of our trainee solicitors and newly qualified solicitors attended at the Merseyside Junior Lawyers Division Charity Ball in support of Clatterbridge Cancer Hospital.

The event helped to raise over £1,650 for Clatterbridge’s new purpose-built cancer hospital being built in Liverpool City Centre, adding to the grand total for the year of £4,300 raised by the MJLD. All manner of prizes were raffled off, including signed Tony Bellew boxing gloves, a night’s stay in the Shankly hotel, and a weekend in London!

Guests were treated to an impassioned talk from Liverpool Law Society Vice Chair and Broudie Jackson Canter Director, Chris Topping, on the importance of Legal Aid – a fundamental right and crucial to providing access to justice.

The evening also served to recognise the achievements of the best and brightest of the up-and-coming lawyers in the region, with the ‘Star of 2018’ awards – for Paralegal; Trainee Solicitor; and CILEX/Newly Qualified (NQ) Solicitor of the year respectively.

With the Jackson Lees Group having three nominations in two of the categories, our very own Hannah Bickley deservedly took home the much-coveted NQ of the year award for her attitude, aptitude and fundraising endeavours over the past year.

Haley Farrell, Director and Head of the Family Law team at Broudie Jackson Canter, said:

I am absolutely delighted that Hannah’s hard work, commitment and passion for making a positive difference was recognised with a very well deserved MJLD award. I am so proud of Hannah’s achievements so far and look forward to seeing her career go from strength to strength. Hannah is a real rising star!

CEO of the Jackson Lees Group, Brian Cullen, commented:

Absolutely delighted for Hannah – a well-deserved award. We were immensely proud to have Mike Fagan nominated – testament to our young lawyers making a positive difference to the lives of those they help. We try to encourage not only our young lawyers, but also all of our people to develop their skills beyond legal and in doing so, we believe we can provide our clients with an outstanding legal service.”

Congratulations to Hannah and to all those nominated and shortlisted for the awards!
