The 2025 Pro Bono List of England & Wales acknowledges the outstanding contributions of barristers and solicitors who have dedicated 25 hours or more to providing pro bono legal assistance over the past year.
This year, the list was endorsed by Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all lawyers on the recognition list, emphasizing the vital role pro bono work plays in the justice system alongside legal aid.
Speaking on the list, the Lady Chief Justice said:
Pro bono is not a substitute for legal aid, but it is a valuable part of our system of justice, working alongside the advice sector. The judiciary sees first-hand how pro bono advice and representation helps those who might not otherwise receive legal assistance. I hope that recognition on the List encourages the legal profession to continue its commitment to providing pro bono help to those in need.”
Broudie Jackson Canter’s Access to Justice Legacy
At Broudie Jackson Canter, access to justice is at the heart of everything we do. Our team has a long history of standing up for those who need it most, ensuring everyone has the right to fair legal representation, regardless of their circumstances.
These values are evident through our work with the Hillsborough Law Now campaign. Co-authored by Elkan Abrahamson, this vital bill is striving to ensure public authorities and officials are honest and cooperate fully with investigations and inquiries. The goal is to stop the cover-ups and secrecy that have blocked justice for victims and their families in the past, ensuring the silenced have a voice to enact real and lasting change. As we wait for the bill to be implemented into the Statute book, we remain vigilant that a full and proper version of the law is introduced and upheld by public bodies.
The Jackson Lees Foundation
At Jackson Lees Group, we believe that everyone deserves access to justice, regardless of their financial situation. Our commitment to this principle is demonstrated through various initiatives and schemes designed to support those who might otherwise struggle to obtain legal assistance.
One of our key initiatives is the Jackson Lees Foundation, which supports disadvantaged groups within the community under four pillars: justice, social, education, and medical care.
Through fundraising and pro bono work, we help ensure that everyone is afforded the access to justice they deserve. Legal aid cuts have made getting legal advice very difficult for many vulnerable individuals, but our foundation strives to bridge this gap.
John-Paul Dennis shares this same commitment, contributing countless hours to pro bono work and demonstrating his commitment to community service and justice.
As the treasurer and director for Liverpool Law Society, he contributes several hours each month to support the organisation. Additionally, John-Paul serves as the Chair of Trustees for Nugent, a poverty alleviation charity, where he again dedicates several hours monthly.
His involvement with Nugent extends into the Diocese of Liverpool, working on initiatives to help individuals of all ages and backgrounds overcome poverty. Through his efforts, he supports the elderly and provides educational opportunities for the young.
Nicola, Clare Elkan, Andrew, and John-Paul's inclusion in the 2025 Pro Bono List of England & Wales highlight what our team’s stand for at the Jackson Lees Group. Their efforts have not only provided crucial legal support to those in need but have also contributed to making a positive difference within our local Merseyside community and beyond.
